In a bid to discover Goan football supremacy, the Airtel Goa Super League kicks off with a mouth-watering tie between Sporting Clube de Goa and Sesa Football Academy at Duler stadium, Mapusa on Friday. The kick off is 4pm.
The game is a repeat of last season’s Goa Super Cup final. On that occasion, Sporting Clube de Goa triumphed over Sesa Football Academy 1-0 thanks to a last minute Victorino Fernandes strike for the Flaming Oranje.
When the two clubs met in this season’s Goa Pro League, Sporting Goa came away with a 2-0 win with Victorino Fernandes on target again, while Liberian striker Boima Jerry Karpeh who is the league’s top goal scorer with 11 goals from eight matches, grabbing the second.
The points are carried over from the first stage of the league and after nine matches Churchill Brothers are currently on top with 23 points, followed by Sporting Clube de Goa in 2nd with 22 points; Dempo Sports Club are in third place with 17 points; Salgaocar Football Club are fourth with 15 points and Sesa Football Academy are occupying 5th spot with 13 points.
As the I-League has gone into a small break for the two international matches, full attention has been given to the local league where a total of 10 exciting matches aim to be played over the next twelve days.
