Churchill Brothers SC’s president Churchill Alemao Wednesday blamed the Goa Football Association for not being rational, cooperative, sporting in not postponing the derby match between Churchill Brothers and Sporting Clube de Goa to decide the Super League Championship (Goa Professional League).
“Football fans were certainly looking for the real finale. They were anticipating fireworks given their eagerness, but, sad to say, the Goa Football Association played the role of spoilsports, to say the least,” said Alemao in a press release issued by the club on Wednesday.
Stating that the club had genuine and positive reasons for seeking the postponement, Alemao said that he had requested the GFA to postpone the match for December 4 and even had informed the GFA’s Secretary about it.
He further said that as per the original Goa Professional League schedule, Churchill Brothers were slated to play on November 20 but had sought postponement since the team was to leave for Kolkata for I-League match also on the same day.
“Instead, the GFA preponed the match to November 19 but Churchill Brothers requested that it would not be possible due to various reasons mentioned by them,” he said.
“From the press reports it is seen that our team did not report for the match. We were never informed in the first place that our request for postponement was rejected and neither had we agreed that the match be preponed,” he lamented.
“Justice must not only be done, but also it should seem to be done,” concluded Alemao, who observed that given the importance of the match, it has to be played in the interest of all and especially the
football fans.
