Super Eagles manager, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi has stated in clear terms that he intends spreading his net into all nooks and crannies of the globe, in search of formidable defenders, midfielders and prolific scorers to beef up his squad ahead of Brazil 2014 World Cup.
Fielding questions from reporters recently, the former Hawks of Togo coach hinged his submission on the need to have a huge pool of players to pick from, adding that no player is guaranteed a place in the team yet.
“We are still in need of defenders, midfielders and strikers alike," Keshi reiterates."I don’t really care where such players are playing, as long they know their onions on the field of play. We are still a work in progress and I am ready to bring in good players who distinguish themselves in their roles.
"Some players have been shortlisted for call-up from some leagues most people don’t expect good players to come from. I have seen these players play and I want to give them a chance in friendly games. We will see where that takes us and once they are good, they will be welcomed,” he states.
It is revealed that Dynamo Kiev midfielder, Haruna Lukman and SC United striker, Ranti Martins top the list of new players to be invited during March FIFA friendly window, while efforts are being made to comb Europe for good defenders as well.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles prospect and United striker SC, Ranti Martins has urged Nigerians to keep faith as Super Eagles awaits its opponents in FIFA 2014 World Cup draw, slated for December 6 in Rio De Janeiro.
The bulky predator who got the attention of Keshi after the big boss watched some of his match footages, maintains that Nigerians need not fear over Super Eagles likely opponents in Brazil 2014, on the ground that the current crop of players in the national team know their onions and would not let the nation down. Martins further expresses confidence in the ability of the coaching crew to raise a formidable squad for the Mundial.
“Nigerians need not panic,” begins the soft spoken striker. “Super Eagles are a great side, so Nigerians need not bother about our opponents in the December 6 draw, the team is capable of playing any team even though we all pray for a fair draw,” he concludes.
