Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal has said that the Maldives will start the renovation work of the stadiums before the deadline given by AFC to host the AF Challenge Cup next year at the Maldives.
Speaking to maldivesoccer.com, Maleeh said that they have already started the work to host the AFC Challenge Cup.
“We have already started the work to host the Challenge Cup and we are confident that we can finish the work before the deadline.”
Meanwhile, Vice President of FAM, Abdul Muhusin Hameed said that they are confident that they can start the work before the deadline.
“We are confident that we can start the renovation work before the deadline. We will sit with the ministry to finalize everything and hope that we can start the work in the first week of December.”
AFC Competitions Committee has proposed to move the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup to the Philippines from Maldives if the latter does not start required renovation work by December 15, 2013 today.
But a final decision would be made by the executive committee of AFC for the proposal from the Competitions Committee.
