Taleigao, Curtorim share spoils

Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao had to settle for a 1-1 draw as Curtorim Gymkhana came back from a goal down in the 3rd round match of the GFA 1st division at Duler stadium here on Tuesday.
Clyde Dias had given Taleigao the lead after 22 minutes but Nelson Fernandes found the equaliser before the half time whistle.
It was a dull start but the teams started to grow in confidence as the game progressed.
Taleigao enjoyed lengthy spells of ball possession in the early stages and capitalised on it as they took the lead in the 22nd minute. Ramesh Palkar initiated the counter attack from the defence before he released Octavio Miranda on the left flank and the latter floated an inch perfect cross which was tapped in by Clyde Dias.
Curtorim began to find their feet and managed to string together a couple of passes but Taleigao were quick to close them down and break the momentum.
Nelson Fernandes shot from distance forced Taligao custodian Edwin Rodrigues into making a low save but minutes before the breather he found the net after receiving a through ball from Peregrino Lima.
Both sides wasted decent chances before the breather and went into the break on level terms.
The teams started the second half as they finished the first with two glorious opportunities. The first fell to Curtorim as Nelsons header from Succor Fernandes flag kick was collected by the keeper.
At the other end it was Clyde who spurned an easy opportunity for Taleigao as he headed wide form hand shaking distance off a Baggio Fernandes’ set-piece delivery.
The momentum kept shifting in either sides favour and although Nelson had a couple of chances for Curtorim it was Nagesh Naik of Sao Minguel Taleigao who went closest as he rattled the Curtorim goal post with a thunderbolt from 35yards.
Curtorim were the better side throughout the second session and created a couple of decent opportunities but Taleigao keeper Edwin produced two spectacular save to deny them and salvage
a point.
