The Sports Authority of Goa has asked the contractor to improve the turf at Nehru Stadium in Fatorda after receiving complaints that the surface is not in the best of condition.
Fatorda has always been known for its turf, counted among the best in the country, but the newly-laid turf has not lived up to the expectations.
"The stadium looks good but I am afraid there has to be improvement to the turf. It's not in the best of condition. I pointed out the problematic spots to the groundsman and he has assured us that everything would be in immaculate condition in the next couple of days," said Goa Football Association executive committee member and Lusofonia Games football manager Sanjeev Nagvenkar.
The stadium was re-opened on re-opened on Tuesday with a friendly encounter between Salcete FC and the Goa Lusofonia Games squad. Goa won 6-1 after being held goalless at the break.
"Apart from the uneven surface, the grass needs a bit of trimming and lots of watering. It's not disastrous but not the best either," said Goa's Portuguese coach Francisco Neto.
