Garhwal FC All set for I-League 2

GARHWAL FC, formerly known as Garhwal Heroes FC, is all geared up for 2nd Division, the second tier league of domestic Indian football. The current Delhi League Champions, one of the only two Delhi based clubs in the competition, has been given approval to participate in the I-League 2nd Division starting February 8, 2014 in an all new avatar. Incidentally, this will be the first time in its history that the 60-year old club will be participating in the national league.

In order to mark this historic beginning, GARHWAL FC announced a slew of initiatives including the unveiling of a new logo and a key strategic alliance, thus taking a major step towards professionalism and growth. The club’s all-new logo is an eclectic mix of green and yellow that defines its core values of Unity, Bravery, Victory. The new logo is a representation of the great Garhwal tradition of fighting against all odds and Delhi’s inclusive character.

GARHWAL FC has also strategically tied-up with the Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools from this season onwards to move the Delhi based club forward in its quest to imprint Delhi with soccer fervor. This partnership represents the club’s aspiration to become the leading elite youth development-based club in India. BBFS, with its 11 training centers in various parts of North India is expected to form a major feeder to the Club’s senior team by nurturing the talented youth in the region. In order to help in its quest to get to the next level, Garhwal FC has also inducted Kishore Taid and Anurag Khilnani, co-founders of Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools, into its Board of Directors.

The club has won the Delhi Senior Division on 2 occasions – 1986, 2013 and has eight club players who have represented India in the past while over 40 players have played at the highest level in the I-league in India.

GARHWAL FC now also has a revamped social media presence to interact and engage with its members and fans for an evolving club experience. The Delhi based club aims to promote a safe, friendly and family-oriented environment in which players and supporters can enjoy the game of football freely.
