Leading football consultancy Libero Sports on Friday said Afghanistan international Zohib Islam Amiri has joined India's Dempo Sports Club till the end of the 2013/14 season.
Amiri joins Dempo SC from Mumbai FC.
Amiri led Afghanistan to a 2-0 victory over India in the SAFF Cup 2013 and was also voted the FPAI Fans’ Player of the Year for the 2012-2013 season in India.
A versatile and strong center back, Amiri can also play as a holding midfielder.
After completing the signing of Amiri, Dempo head coach Arthur Papas was quoted saying, “We are delighted to have completed the signing of Amiri, who we believe will play an important role in the club’s run in the Federation Cup and Airtel I-League."
Amiri, after signing for Dempo SC said: “I am delighted to finally have signed for Dempo SC.I look forward to repaying the faith showed in me by Mr Papas. My main focus will be to play well for the team, and have a successful season with Dempo SC.”
FIFA Licensed Agent and Libero Sports Partner Arvind Narayan, who represented Zohib Islam Amiri in the transfer, said: “Amiri is a young and powerful defender with a lot of quality. He’s a quality addition to the Dempo SC team, who will best utilize his strengthand versatilityto have a very good finish to the season.”
