Pune FC bounced back to winning ways a come-from-behind 2-1 win over arch rivals Mumbai FC in a Round 8 encounter of the U19 I-League 2014 at the Goal Sports Association Ground in Churchgate, Mumbai on Monday.
Ashutosh Bane (17th minute) gave Mumbai FC an early lead before strikes from medio Kiran Choukashi (25th) and Altamash Sayed (29th) turned the game in Pune FC’s favour.
With the third win of the campaign, Pune FC consolidated their second spot in the table with 11 points from six games. The win also helped Pune FC complete a double over Mumbai FC after beating the 4-1 earlier in the first leg.
Coach Naushad Moosa made three changes to the starting lineup from the previous game handing starts to goalkeeper Tanmay Bhattacharjee, defender Kaushal Singh and attacker Sanchayan Samadder.
After a hard fought opening quarter, Mumbai FC took the lead two minutes past the quarter hour mark. Attacker Ashutosh made no mistake finishing from inside the box on the left off a deep cross in from the right.
Seven minutes later, Pune FC equalised at the other end. After winger Chesterpaul Lyngdoh set up Kiran with a brilliant back pass down the middle, the central midfielder scored his second goal in as many matches with a sublime finish from 25-yards out to put Pune FC on level terms.
Four minutes later, Pune FC completed their comeback taking the lead. Running down the right flank on a solo, playmaker Altamash Sayed cut inside the box and saw his powerful attempt saved by the rival keeper. However, he kept his calm, controlled the rebound and scored from inside the box to give Pune FC a 2-1 lead going into the breather.
The second half saw both sides pushing up in search of a goal but finishing in the final third let them down as the game ended 2-1.
