With the title race in India heating up, this match was a crucial fixture, especially for Bengaluru, the run away leader of the I League. And the teams didnt disappoint..
The match started off with a very fast pace. Both teams showed their determination to gain the three points. Pune's strike force showed great skill and coordination and had a few brilliant chances as well. Bengaluru on the other hand were not making use of their midfielders like Rooney and Singh to the full extent. They were rather relying of their flanks, but such a tactic worked to their advantage when in the 25th minute Thoi Singh scored off a from the woodwork. After that, the match was pretty much dominated by Bengaluru with Pune's midfielders showing reluctance to get involved.
In the second half, Bengaluru came with all guns blazing and the team was working brilliantly as one. Rooney, Chettri, Robin Singh all played brilliantly. They had many chances but couldn't score. Pune meanwhile were slowly and surely getting back in the game. Bengaluru were looking very vulnerable in defense and Pune could have capitalised much earlier but they did eventually from a fine cross from which Anthony D'Souza scored. Bengaluru had many chances to get back but they failed to take them.
Overall it was a great game with quality play from both teams. Bengaluru will probably be disappointed with a draw while Pune will be proud of getting a point; they are still very much in the hunt for the crown.
