Royal Wahingdoh walked home with a 2-0 away result against Rangdajied United after the latter side was made to pay the price by conceding an early second minute penalty in their U-19 I-League match on Wednesday at the JN Sports Complex.
Midfielder Loken Meitei and defender Vanlalzuia scored a goal apiece to set up a convincing victory over the blues in their away match to gain three more crucial points.
Rangdajied’s Donborlang Nongkynrih was sent off as early as in the 3rd minute after being found guilty of a hand ball inside the penalty box which resulted in a penalty for Wahingdoh. Loken was the shot-taker, finding his way past keeper Sunshine Kharmuti into the right of the goal for an early 3rd minute lead. In the 32nd minute, Eijingmut Lyngdoh, moving down the left flank, set up an easy goal for Vanlalzuia, who placed a fine ground shot into the far post for a second goal.
Rangdajied United pushed hard in the second half and came close to scoring on a number of occasions, but were unlucky. However, it was Wahingdoh that subsequently walked home with the win.
Royal Wahingdoh’s next game is against Shillong Lajong in an all-important derby on March 11 at Polo Grounds.
