Laldrindika Ralte set up the first and scored the second goal in Kingfisher East Bengal’s narrow 2-1 win over Sporting Clube de Goa, in the Airtel I-League at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Sunday.
East Bengal led 1-0 at the interval.East Bengal managed to take the lead just before the break, when Lalrindika rolled the ball into the path of substitute Baljit Sahni to place in and give his side the lead. Up to this point Sporting Goa were performing well and were unlucky to go into the break a goal down.
Changing over, Sporting Goa pushed forward on a number of occasions in search of the equalizer, but was crowded out on entering their opponent’s box.In the 65th minute, Sporting Goa’s custodian Melroy Fernandes advanced off his goal line to punch away a trade mark Raju Gaikwad long throw-in. The Flaming Oranje defence failed to clear the ball, with it eventually finding its way to Ladrindika whose deflected shot found its way into the back of the net.
Sporting Goa continued to commit men forward and came ever so close to scoring through substitute Beeven D’Mello and Boima Jerry karpeh’s great attempt’s, but the East Bengal goalkeeper somehow managed to keep them at bay.
Sporting Goa managed to pull back a goal through the boot of Beeven D’Mello in the final minute, but it proved too little too late as East Bengal hung on for victory.
