Royal Wahingdoh juniors played out a hard fought 1-1 draw against USYSA Select from the United States in their Future Champions 2014 opener at Gauteng, South Africa.
Striker Sushil Meitei scored for the Royals while Connor DeFilippis added one for USYSA to keep the scores level at the end of full time.
Royal Wahingdoh’s next match will be a high profile one, as they take on English Premiership side Sunderland AFC on March 25. Sunderland have already lost their first game 2-1 to local side Mamelodi Sundowns and will be under pressure to deliver against the Shillong-based side.
It may be mentioned that Royal Wahingdoh FC is the only club from India to participate in the Future Champions tournament, which includes a total of sixteen teams from across the globe.
