A brilliant performance display on Friday saw Royal Wahingdoh juniors overcome Supersport United of South Africa via tie-breaker (4-3) after regulation time yielded a 1-1 score line in their Future Champions 2014 match in Gauteng, South Africa.
Premchand Singh pulled one back for the junior Royals, comprising of a majority U-17 players, after Wahingdoh conceded a first half lead.
Premchand, assisted by forward Sushil Meitei, found himself in the right position for a tap in to keep the scores level at 1-1 before going into a tiebreaker which was eventually won by the Shillong team 4-3.
Supersport United are one of the top tier teams in South Africa, currently participating in the Premier Soccer League and winning three titles from 2008-2010. Friday’s match in Gauteng was a playoff for the final standings which will determine each team’s final rankings in the tournament. Royal Wahingdoh’s next opponent will be either Jomo Cosmos (South Africa) or Saki West (Nigeria), depending on which team wins when they face each other.
