In the Goan El Clasico, Sporting Clube de Goa face off against Panjim rivals Dempo Sports Club at PJN Stadium, Fatorda on Saturday. The kick off time is 6pm.
The last time the two teams met was in the famous Federation Cup semi finals in January, in Kerala. That day it was Sporting Goa who triumphed 3-2 after extra time.
Dempo did well to equalise twice in that game, but in the end the Flaming Oranje proved to have that little bit extra left over in reserve, as they showed great resolve and team spirit, despite playing just 48 hours earlier and travelling, with little time to recover.
This will be Sporting Goa’s first match at the PJN stadium in Fatorda for 15 months and the team is expecting a good reception, as a lot of their first team players hail from Salcete, including India International Victorino Fernandes.
“We had a terrific run at the Duler Stadium, thanks largely to the local Bardez fans and we hope for the continued fantastic support from the people of Goa, in Margao.” stated Sporting Clube de Goa Coach Oscar Bruzon.
