In a high voltage clash, Royal Wahingdoh FC played out a goalless draw against Bhawanipore FC in their second match of the I-League II 2014first leg in Silchar on Tuesday.
Bhawanipore's danger man Daniel Bedemi, who has been a constant threat, was kept at bay by the reliable Loveday Okechukwu who played a prominent role. Wahingdoh’s goalkeeper Nikhil Bernard also made a couple of brilliant saves that stopped the Bengal side from finding the nets.
The match looked well poised for a thrilling finish before both sides eventually settled for a point apiece. With this result, Wahingdoh maintain second spot in the Second Division I-League 2014 with four points from two games. Their next match will be against Hindustan FC on March 29 at 5:30pm at the same venue.
In the Future Champions 2014 Gauteng match at South Africa, a disciplined performance allowed the junior Royals a 0-0 draw against English Premiership side Sunderland AFC. Royal Wahingdoh are now placed second in the Group with 2 points from two games, while South African Mamelodi Sundowns are on top with 6 points from two matches. Sunderland AFC and USYSA Select have a point each from their two matches.
Meanwhile, Royal Wahingdoh’s U-14 boys found their way into the finals of the Shillong Sports Association U-14 Football Tournament 2014 after beating Nangkiew Irat SC via tiebreaker on Tuesday at Polo Grounds.
