Goals by Maitshaphrang Nengnong, Jerry Zonunsanga, and Donborlang Nongkynrih saw Royal Wahingdoh U-19 walk home with a comprehensive yet nail-biting victory over a spirited Malki in their U-19 Shillong Premier League match at Polo on Friday.
The junior Royals, fielding a majority of their youth players from the U-16 squad, could have increased the scoreline if not for a number of opportunities going to waste especially in the first half.
Striker Maitshaphrang Nengnong gave Wahingdoh the lead early on in the 18th minute after beating the keeper. The lead was then doubled in the 37th minute after Jerry Zonunsanga scored following a lapse in the Malki defence.
Malki, however, came back hard soon after the break and came close to scoring on a few occasions. They were finally rewarded in the 87thminute through a goal by Shasbar Mawlong but conceded a third goal with Wahingdoh newcomer Donborlang Nongkynrih contributing a 90thminute conversion.
The U-19 side looked a stronger lot after their first appearance against Nangkiew Irat on Tuesday where they lost 1-0, playing an attacking game especially in the first half.
