So with the dust settling on Transfer Deadline Day let’s see how EPL teams fared. Here i would like to analyse major signings of EPL clubs on Transfer Deadline Day.
Take a look
ARSENAL
Danny Welbeck (ST – 23 – England) £16m from Manchester United
With the announcement on Olivier Giroud’s injury keeping him out until the end of the year it was essential Arsene Wenger brought in a striker. With Radamel Falcao joining Manchester United his next best option was to go to Old Trafford himself for Danny Welbeck. The young England striker has spent his career to date at United, usually as a second striker in a 442 formation and it will be interesting to see how he suits life as an out and out striker in a 4231 formation. Arsenal fans were also desperate for a good CDM but none was signed and it looked less likely anyway once Arteta was named captain.
ASTON VILLA
No signings but Karim El Ahmadi has returned to Feyenoord from where he joined in 2012.
BURNLEY
Nathaniel Chalobah (CM/CB - 19 – England) Loan from Chelsea
George Boyd (Winger – 28 – Scotland) £3m from Hull City
Michael Keane ( CB – 21 - England ) Loan from Manchester United
Two good pieces of business from Sean Dyche in my eyes. Nate Chalobah has served his Chelsea apprenticeship so far at Watford, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough on loan and now gets his first taste of Premiership action with Burnley. He is either a defensive midfielder or can play centre-back and has been capped by England U21 fifteen times. Boyd signed for Hull City last season from Peterborough United who seem to have a real knack of unearthing hidden gems from non-league football. He joined the Posh in 2007 from Stevenage Borough staying until 2013 when he joined Hull initially on loan at the end of the 2012/13 campaign before signing permanently at the end of the year. He has been capped by Scotland twice and should add some real attacking flair and service to Ings and Jutkiewicz.
CHELSEA
No signings but Nathaniel Chalobah has joined Burnley on loan and Jamal Blackman has joined Middlesbrough on loan
CRYSTAL PALACE
James McArthur (CM – 26 – Scotland) £7m from Wigan Athletic
Kevin Doyle (ST – 30 – Ireland) Loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers
Zeki Fryers (LB – 21 – England) Undisclosed from Tottenham Hotspur
Palace striker Glenn Murray has also joined Reading on loan
Scotland interntional McArthur is the kind of experienced midfielder Palace need to run the game at the moment and with Wilfried Zaha returning from Manchester United last week things are starting to look brighter for the club. Left back Zeki Fryers joins from Spurs where he made seven league appearances and Irish international Doyle has played for Reading and Wolves before and was at QPR last season on loan.
EVERTON
No signings but defender Shane Duffy has transferred to Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee
HULL CITY
Abel Hernandez (ST – 24 – Uruguay) £10m from Palermo
Mohamed Diame (CM – 27 – Senegal) Undisclosed fee from West Ham United
Gaston Ramirez (AM – 23 – Uruguay) Loan from Southampton
Hatem Ben Arfa (LW – 27 – France) Undisclosed from Newcastle United
George Boyd has transferred to Burnley for £3m
Despite the signing of Falcao by Manchester United I reckon that Hernandez signing for Hull could be the best deal of the day. They’ve broken their club record for him but he has already scored seven times in fourteen games for his country and spent five years in Serie A & B with Palermo. Diame is an experienced midfielder having played in the Premiership with Wigan and West Ham since 2009 and has been capped by Senegal twenty times. Ramirez joins his countryman Hernandez from Southampton on loan having joined Saints in 2012 from Bologna and has been capped by Uruguay thirty-one times. Right at the end of the window Ben Arda signed from Newcastle to finish Hull’s day with a flourish. It’s hard to argue that Hull haven’t done the best deadline day business of the season and if I was a Hull fan I’d be waking up pretty happy this morning.
LEICESTER CITY
Nick Powell (CM – 20 – England) Loan from Manchester United
Tom Lawrence (CF – 20 – Wales) Undisclosed from Manchester United
Ryan Watson has joined Northampton Town on loan
Powell is a promising young player who United signed from Crewe in 2012 and was on loan at Wigan last season. Lawrence is a Welsh Under 21 striker.
LIVERPOOL
No signings but Oussama Assaidi has joined Stoke City on loan and Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates has joined Sunderland on loan
MANCHESTER CITY
No signings but Alvaro Negredo has joined Valencia on loan, Micah Richards is trying his hand at Serie A joining Fiorentina on loan and youngster Emyr Huws has transferred to Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee
MANCHESTER UNITED
Radamel Falcao (ST – 28 – Colombia) Loan from Monaco
Daley Blind (LWB/CDM – 24 – Holland) £13.8m from Ajax
Danny Welbeck has transferred to Arsenal for £16m and Javier Hernandez has joined Real Madrid on loan, Nick Powell is on loan at Leicester and Tom Lawrence has gone there too for an undisclosed fee, Michael Keane has joined Burnley on loan
There is no doubt that the headline signing of the day is Falcao leaving Monaco for Manchester United. With the departures of Welbeck and Hernandez on the cards United needed another striker but with Rooney and Van Persie as their established strike pair it is difficult to see how Van Gaal will incorporate Falcao while keeping all three happy. It was expected that they would make endeavours to shore up the leaky shambolic defence but they have done nothing of the sort. Falcao is a fantastic striker who is probably in the top five in the world and has been capped by Colombia fifty-one times. Blind was part of Van Gaal’s Holland team at the World Cup and his signature raises questions on how much he rates Luke Shaw really. Maybe blind will play the CDM role where Darren Fletcher has been playing but wherever he is it still doesn’t sure the centre back problem or the unfamiliar wingback formation.
NEWCASTLE UNITED
No signings but Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has joined Roma on loan and Hatem Ben Arfa has signed for Hull City
QUEENS PARK RANGERS
Sandro (CM – 25 – Brazil) Undisclosed from Tottenham Hotspur
Niko Kranjcar (AM – 30 – Croatia)Loan from Dynamo Kiev
Harry Redknapp is re-united with two of his former Spurs players here. Sandro has not featured under new manager Pochettino despite being capped by Brazil seventeen times and Kranjcar was on loan at Loftus Road last season and now makes the move again.
SOUTHAMPTON
Sadio Mane (ST – 22 – Senegal) £10m from Red Bull Salzburg
Toby Alderweireld (CB/RB – 25 – Belgium) Loan from Atletico Madrid
Jos Hooiveld has joined Norwich City on loan and Jack Stephens has joined Swindon Town on loan
The club have terminated the loan deal for Saphir Taider sending him back to Inter Milan
Striker Mane joins after two years in Austria where he averaged a goal every two games. Defender Alderweireld won the La Liga title with Atletico Madrid last season having joined them in 2013 from Ajax and has been capped by Belgium thirty-seven times already.
STOKE CITY
Oussama Assaidi (Winger – 26 – Morocco) On loan from Liverpool
Assaidi spent last season on loan making 19 league appearances and returns again for a second season.
SUNDERLAND
Sebastian Coates (CB – 23 – Uruguay) On loan from Liverpool
Ricardo Alvarez (AM – 26 – Argentina) On loan from Inter Milan
Defender Valentin Roberge has joined Reims on loan and Modibo Diakite has been released
Two promising South American players heading to the Stadium of Light on loan. Alvarez has been capped seven times by Argentina and has been at Inter since 2011 playing for the ninety times in Serie A. Coates joined Liverpool in 2011 but struggled to break into the first team and was on loan at Nacional in his home country to ensure his place in the World Cup squad.
SWANSEA CITY
Modou Barrow (ST – 21 – Gambia ) Undisclosed from Osterunds FK
Jose Canas transferred to Espanyol on a free transfer and Alex Bray has joined Plymouth Argyle on loan
Nothing too much to mention here as even their signing is an Under 21 player from a second tier Swedish team who has not even played for Gambia yet.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Benjamin Stambouli (CDM – 24 – France) Undisclosed fee from Montpellier
Lewis Holtby has joined Hamburg on loan, Zeki Fryers has joined Crystal Palace, Jon Obika has joined Swindon Town for an undisclosed fee and Sandro has joined Queens Park Rangers
WEST BROMWICH ALBION

Mohamed Diame has joined Hull for an undisclosed fee
Amalfitano was on loan last season with West Brom making thirty-one league appearances and has been capped by France once.
