Messi set to be the highest paid footballer.

Messi, the Argentina forward has reached an agreement with Barcelona which will make him the highest paid footballer in the world. If the sources are to be believed, he has signed a new 5 year contract worth €20 million. This was declared on the eve of the most important match for Barcelona against Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona’s website also confirmed that they have agreed terms. "Barcelona has reached an agreement to adjust the terms in the contract binding Leo Messi to the club as a professional first team player," it read. "The revised and updated contract will be signed over the next few days."

This season has not been so productive for Messi as he has missed lots of matches due to injury as well as some tax issues which was on him. This deal, thus has arrived at a crucial moment for Messi making his season happy after all. But it will be all the more happy; when Barcelona defeats Atletico and lifts the cup, as this marks the last season for another legend of Barcelona: ‘Carlos Puyol’.

The new deal according to reports went for number of weeks as the Barca forward saw the Madrid superstar Ronaldo surpass him to be the highest paid. This irked Messi and after a lengthy negotiation the €20 million deal went through.
