Barcelona have achieve enormous success over the last decade , with their archrivals Real Madrid have , with all due respect , achieved little success considering the superstars that they have acquired at large sums.
The following are the reasons which contributed to Barcelona's success , and factors which are likely to propel Barcelona into possibly surpassing Real Madrid as the most successful team in Spain and Europe.
1. During the 2005/2006 season , Barcelona announced themselves as a European superpower by winning against Arsenal in Paris. During that season , a certain Lionel Messi emerged as a promising prospect for the future. Although not included in the starting eleven for the final , the following years were pivotal for the development of Messi, Xavi & Iniesta's careers. The victory in Paris ensured that the football world sat up and took notice of the direction that the club were headed to ( with an emphasis put on La Masia).
2.With the development of Barcelona's famous Last Masia trio ( Messi , Xavi and Iniesta ) , together with the acquisition of quality players such as Henry , helped to propel Messi's career development , as the club's style of football further enhanced Messi's popularity the football and world. This was evident as Messi scored a memorable goal against Manchester United in the Champions league final in 2009. That goal further highlighted Messi's claim as an emerging player of legendary status.
3. With Messi contributing a large chunk of Barcelona's goals , some commentators started questioning whether Barcelona can cope without Messi. Barcelona's board decided to sign a young promising prospect , by the name of Neymar Jnr. Initially , there were mixed reactions to the signing , with the legendary Cryuff stating in media that Neymar wouldn't be able to gel with Messi. However , this statement proved to be flawed , as evident from the success that Barcelona on enjoyed during the 2014/2015 season , were Barcelona won their second treble , and being touted as the greatest football club of all time.
4.The production line of La Masia graduates doesn't seem towards ending. The latest additions ( Roberto, Munir,Rafinha and Samper ) are promising prospects. It's a pity that the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Bellerin , just to name a few , would have made Barcelona's prospects brighter.
With a few signings of players of exceptional quality , coupled with the best promotion of Law Masia graduates, the sky is the limit for Barcelona.
